More than 100,000 downloads of GRAPHISOFT’s BIMx application (an ENR top app) have been performed in Apple’s App Store. That’s a huge milestone for an application that provides cutting-edge communication and works as a presentation tool for BIM projects.
The interactive environment found in BIMx lets any user experience full BIM models without requiring the license forthe professional authoring software in which the building model was originally created. ArchiCAD users of BIMx, have been known to publish self-running BIMx models for their clients. These models can run on desktop computers (Win/Mac), as well as on iOS and Android devices. It is especially helpful for contractors, builders, clients, owners, and principals of design practices – who want to show off their work and get feedback on the BIM as they are creating and revising. But the beauty of BIMx is that anyone involved in the project – even if he or she is not actively creating the BIM – gets a chance to get up close to the design.
GRAPHISOFT has also announced two new features in BIMx for iOS and Android devices. The first we’ll mention is the Gallery function. This feature permits users to define views and navigational routes; from these defined points, one can freely ‘walk through’ the model. Also added, Guided navigation, which restricts navigation of the model to those views previously saved in the Gallery.
As always, the integrated BIMx community on Facebook provides a central hub for sharing interactive 3D building models. Architects who hold a BIMx license – either commercial or educational – are permitted to publish their models directly to this online community. The community works with all the familiar Facebook functionality such as comments, likes and share. But our BIMx community goes a step further and adds customized functions for filtering models by educational or professional types; searching models using key-words or finding uploaded models of specific users, architects or clients. BIMx models can be uploaded, browsed and downloaded even if you don’t have a Facebook account – but you won’t be able to comment about or like any model.
How do you use BIMx to present and communicate your BIM?
