Close the GAP – Make BIM a Better Tool at the USC BIM Symposium
GRAPHISOFT is proud to be a sponsor of the 8th Annual USC BIM Symposium scheduled for August 22nd-23rd at the University of Southern California School of Architecture in Los Angeles.
The line up of speakers is impressive! Design professionals will hear presentations about bridging GAPs between BIM tools and users. The scope of the conference will cover BIM tools as they are used for analysis, construction, facilities management and BIM users such as contractors, architects, owners, managers and consultants.
Our own, Kyla Kuhnlein | AIA | LEED AP BD+C, will be among the distinguished panel of presenters, giving her talk during the first day of the conference. She will focus on how BIM best serves the user by being the best tool – as a collaboration facilitator. To best illustrate that aspect of BIM, she will highlight past projects and focus on the ways key ArchiCAD features assisted her in collaboration.
Kuhnlein will use the Calumet Middle School Addition project as her main example. The school was in urgent need of updating – considered a “functionally obsolete” building prior to its renovation. Along with being located on a very small lot, very near the existing building, construction had to take place during the school year. Kuhnlein and her team at STR had to manage all the safety concerns and logistics. Throughout the project, they relied on the model to help the team capture and document the building design and graphically show all the phases of construction.
Kuhnlein knows firsthand the importance of delivering successful documentation of existing and new building elements, identification of demolition areas, setting up the phasing of demolition and construction, and communication of these elements and tasks to their consultants and the client – and she’s sharing her knowledge with you!
Upon completion of the conference, attendees will earn AIA CEU: 5 learning units for each day.
