The upcoming ABX Conference, Convention and Expo promises to impress attendees with the latest in industry trends, educate them in some 200 sessions and show them how to make it all come together with state-of-the-art products on the show floor. This year’s conference program features brand new tracks on high-performance topics, technology, healthcare, and education as well as a track designed for firm principals and owners. So many exciting events are happening at ABX this November – here are some of the highlights.

Notable Boston-based ARCHICAD firm, designLAB is a featured speaker at ABX. Firm principal, Sam Batchelor presents his thoughts on a compelling topic, how to leverage mobile technology. The session on Tuesday morning, Small Firm Leverages Mobile Technology in a Big Way focuses on three current designLAB projects – all of which illustrate how powerful BIM and mobile technologies can be leveraged to aid in design, client communication, and construction administration processes. Batchelor will discuss 3D visualization and sun control strategies to communication and file sharing, the advantages and limitations of existing technology. He’ll demonstrate several off-the-shelf mobile applications that have the capacity to transform the flow and availability of information, particularly during Construction Administration.

WID Symposium

As a keynote sponsor of the Women in Design Symposium happening at ABX this year GRAPHISOFT has the distinct honor to welcome attendees to the Keynote Breakfast. Entitled “Research. Innovate. Design.” the breakfast session features a distinguished panel who will discuss issues facing women in the AEC space today. On Wednesday morning session discusses the blending of research and design and how it is evolving the design industry in new and exciting ways. Women in Design invited four practitioners from design and academic backgrounds to hold an eye-opening discussion on how might the deepening relationship between research and design lead to practical applications? How might architects inform research methodologies within their own practice to inform innovation in the larger building industry? Click here for more information on the breakfast session.

The schedule of WID focused sessions continues throughout Wednesday with “Integrating Research in Practice” at 10 am – which addresses meeting the evolving challenges confronting architects today. Specifically, the session looks at the need to delve deeper into finding technologies and solutions that affect the performance of our buildings and occupant experience. Later on Wednesday at 1:30 the WID Awards Ceremony & Luncheon features presentations of this year’s Women in Design Award of Excellence. It is a moment to honor those individuals who have exhibited exceptional achievement in person, process, product, and position. Following the luncheon, head to what promises to be an engaging session “Digital Brainstorming: New Computational Tools for Creative Data-Driven Design.”  This session will focus on tools that link conceptual design decisions in architecture to quantitative and qualitative performance metrics, such as structural material volume, energy consumption, daylighting quality, and formal and spatial qualities. Participants will learn strategies for using the tools in their practices to navigate conceptual building design problems in a flexible yet data-driven way.

After such an intensely creative and expansive day, you’ll be craving a moment to blow off steam, network with colleagues and get happy. So head over to Happy Hour to benefit Rosie’s Place. Rosie’s Place provides a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. Rosie’s Place has evolved from providing meals and shelter to creating permanent solutions through advocacy and education – your participation in this happy hour supports this worthy cause.

ARCHICAD User Group Social

Also on Wednesday, you will want to check out the ARCHICAD User Group – November 18th at 6:30. The Boston ARCHICAD User Group Social is a great opportunity to meet your GRAPHISOFT team, network with other ARCHICAD users, exchange ideas, learn tips and tricks, and share your success stories with ARCHICAD and related BIM apps. Check out GRAPHISOFT’s latest BIM technologies, including ARCHICAD 19 and BIMx Pro. As you enjoy refreshments and mingle with your GRAPHISOFT team and other local ARCHICAD enthusiasts, you will hear fun, informal presentations made by your fellow ARCHICAD users.
