The community center just opened to the public last fall, providing much-needed space for health services, physical activity and education. However new it may be, given the enormity of the center’s importance, the Salvation Army Kroc Corp Community Center of Camden, New Jersey deserves this high honor. The Kroc Center is more than a building. The building represents a coordinated effort to reclaim space and provide much needed services to the community.

The $90 million project, situated on a 24-acre former municipal landfill creates positive and sustainable social, economic, and cultural benefits to the communityArchiCAD Kitchen & Associates and serve as an anchor for neighborhood revitalization. Kitchen & Associates had to rely on interdisciplinary collaboration while designing in ARCHICAD to acquire funding and maintain project momentum through site remediation, design, and construction.

A winner of the NJ Smart Growth Award, the Kroc Center design has satisfied a list of ten objectives to support smart growth in the community. The initiative, modified from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, recognizes and addresses accessibility, neighborhood development and the inherent connections between environmental protection, social equity, public health, and economic sustainability.

GRAPHISOFT extends a heartfelt congratulations to the Salvation Army Kroc Center of Camden and Kitchen & Associates for successfully completing a project worthy of such a high profile visit.
