BSA Architecture/Design College Fair

Earlier this month, GRAPHISOFT took part in this year’s BSA Architecture/Design College Fair. Held at Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT), the event – now in its 27th year – drew more than 200 students and parents from all over the United States to learn about careers in architecture, interior design, and landscape design. Representatives from forty five different schools located throughout North America provided information to prospective students on portfolios, admissions, scholarships, curricula, and more. More than a dozen schools also provided in-depth portfolio reviews to help students in the process of preparing their college applications.

GRAPHISOFT was proud to be at the event that has built a reputation for pioneering design school recruitment in the Northeast. Each year, students in their junior and senior of high school seek information on local schools providing their preferred degree programs. They also had an opportunity to hear two different panel discussions: “Demystifying the Architecture Portfolio,” with Tim Love AIA, 2015 BSA president; Vittoria Buccina, Syracuse University; and Richard Griswold, Boston Architectural College (BAC). “Selecting an Architecture Program” was led by Lee Waldrep from Illinois School of Architecture.

CAD Academy Excellence

GRAPHISOFT has been a long-time partner with The CAD Academy. The engineering and architectural program for high schools in the United States began in 2007 – founded on the belief that students are extremely capable and can accomplish so much. GRAPHISOFT, provides ARCHICAD – a professional level BIM (building information model) program for the CAD Academy’s program. CAD Academy organizers provide content that makes learning architecture and engineering interesting and easy for students to learn the software in the program by starting immediately with projects. ARCHICAD helps them accomplish this. The CAD Academy provides “how to” videos and “step-by-step” tutorials that lead students to a level of expertise. logo

“Recognizing that students are unique and have different learning styles, we have incorporated a variety of learning methods into our program. Of note, our “new learning style” has taken form of a contest, the LEED Dream Home Contest.”

boathouse“Students receive supporting video content we provide on the meaning of Leadership in Energy and Environmental and the categories that make up LEED Certification Levels. Students also learn the need to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by efficiently using energy, water, and other resources, protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity, and the importance of reducing waste and pollution.”

The projects are submitted by March 15th and are judged by a panel of architects, educators and experts in the field using LEED Categories. The winning students receive an award of a laptop.

“The entries never fail to amaze and delight the judges who cannot believe that high school students are the creators of the projects. We have noticed that the entries become more detailed and professional each year and credit for that goes to our instructors who have become more familiar with all aspects of using ARCHICAD to create a LEED Dream Home. The contest is possible only because of our partnership with GRAPHISOFT and their support of our program.”

“ARCHICAD has everything included to produce a LEED Dream Home from the site to the roof.  Of course our main objective is to get students interested in going into the field of Architecture and The CAD Academy, along with our valuable partners, GRAPHISOFT, districts who use our curriculum and great instructors has accomplished just that.” Burrueta_LEED2
