I am in a small firm, McDowell Fine Homes, that does Custom Residential homes in the Santa Fe, NM Historical District. The work epitomizes the traditional “Santa Fe Pueblo Style” so prevalent here in the Southwest. However, this look could not be accomplished without the high tech approach that ARCHICAD allows. Each home is thoroughly modeled in ARCHICAD. Every structural element, every HVAC component, every solar panel, every soffit and every window and door is drawn in 3D. This gives me the ability to determine the exact construction means and methods that will be utilized in the building process. I am also able to give the clients a BIMx model that allows them to explore each and every facet of their home. This has proved invaluable in my ability to present and explain the design. When meetings occur, I can make immediate changes with the client sitting next to me at the computer. This has allowed them to have a direct input into their design. I could not imagine creating a home without the 3D capabilities that ARCHICAD allows. ARCHICAD also allows me to produce construction drawings directly from the single .pln file that produces the work. Changes in the building model are immediately updated on any of the affected sheets in the drawing set. It takes a lot of high-tech computer programming to create a timeless “Santa Fe Pueblo Style” home. I couldn’t do it without the ARCHICAD software by GRAPHISOFT.
